Blockchain and Virtual Currencies Committee

Mission Statement

The Blockchain and Virtual Currencies Committee focuses on both the use of new technology for the business of insurance and applying existing insurance principles and policies to this rapidly developing area of distributed ledger technology and law.  In connection with new technology development, we are interested in the use and regulation of so-called “smart contracts” and programmable money to create immutable or unbreakable insurance contracts.  We are closely monitoring the development of new products to insure Blockchain-related risks, and the application of existing first- and third-party products to risks associated with assets whose control is often determined by possession of cryptographic private keys.
