Established in 2012, ACCEC is composed of preeminent coverage and extracontractual counsel in the United States and Canada, representing the interests of both insurers and policyholders. The College is focused on the creative, ethical and efficient adjudication of insurance coverage and extracontractual disputes, peer-provided scholarship, professional coordination and the improvement of the relationship between and among our diverse members. Through its Board of Regents and its working committees, the College engages in a wide variety of activities designed to promote those goals, in addition to improving the civility and the quality of the practice of insurance law.

Cozen O’Connor announced that Stephen Pate has joined the firm’s Global Insurance Department, in the Houston office. Pate—who joins as a member and will be co-chair of the property insurance practice group—handles matters such as property insurance, directors and officers insurance, business interruption, CDL insurance, builders risk and commercial general liability disputes, among others. He has been recognized as a leading lawyer for insurance law by Chambers. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the American Law Institute.
Jill B. Berkeley, chair of the Insurance Policyholder practice group and partner in the General & Commercial Litigation group at Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP, was awarded the first Lifetime Achievement Award of the ABA’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee (ICLC). The award was created this year in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Committee’s annual meeting and recognizes Jill’s many significant contributions to the mission and objectives of the Committee and the Section.
